2024/25 NSW Champion of Champion Pairs – Day Two Update
Caringbah Bowling Club
Day Two of the 2024/25 NSW Champion of Champion Pairs brought with it a mix of tension, unpredictability, and some challenging weather conditions — but throughout it all, our Caringbah representatives continued to demonstrate great pride, resilience, and sportsmanship.
Men’s Pairs
After their strong fightback yesterday, Peter Stanes and Phil Bates had to endure a nervous wait today, with progression hinging on the outcome of the final sectional game. Despite their outstanding efforts across both of their matches, fortune was not on our side. The South Campsie team, needing just a drawn result, managed exactly that, progressing through to the next round by the narrowest of margins — just half a point.
While the result was heartbreaking, we cannot overstate how proud we are of Peter and Phil. Competing in their first-ever State event, they represented Caringbah with distinction, showing the skill, courage, and determination that embodies our club’s spirit. Congratulations to Peter and Phil on a terrific campaign — this experience will no doubt serve as a springboard for even greater success in the future.
Women’s Pairs
Our Ramettes, Candice Murphy and Maria Bettini, returned to the green today to face a highly talented team from Wallerawang. From the outset, Wallerawang came out firing, building an early 10–0 lead after just seven ends before play was halted due to severe thunder and lightning. Following a 30-minute weather delay, the match resumed, but momentum remained with Wallerawang, with Candice and Maria trailing 14–3 after eleven ends.
Despite giving their all and fighting hard to turn things around, the gap proved too great, and the final scoreline finished 22–3 in Wallerawang’s favour.
While today’s result didn’t go our way, we are incredibly proud of Candice and Maria’s efforts over the two days. They played with great heart, spirit, and determination — and, just like our men’s team, they represented Caringbah with tremendous pride and sportsmanship on the state stage.
As this chapter of the 2024/25 Champion of Champion Pairs comes to a close for our Caringbah teams, we reflect not just on the scores but on the passion, effort, and commitment shown by our players. To Peter, Phil, Candice, and Maria — thank you for wearing the Rams and Ramettes colours with pride. You have done your club proud, and we are all behind you as you continue your bowls journeys.
Go the Rams and Ramettes!
