Club History
Founded in 1951, the original Caringbah Bowling Club quickly became a cornerstone of community life — where friendships were formed, games were played, and countless memories were made across the greens.
Through the 1950s and 60s, the Club thrived, hosting tournaments, charity days, and social events that became part of the Sutherland Shire’s story. In 1970, a new clubhouse was unveiled to support a growing membership, marking a proud milestone in the Club’s history.
A Vision For The Future
By the 2010s, the Club’s leaders recognised the need for renewal — to preserve its spirit while reimagining it for a new generation. In 2021, a strategic Plan of Management was adopted, setting out the vision for a vibrant, community-driven precinct that would combine bowling, dining, and social connection.
That vision became reality through Caringbah Greens development: a thoughtfully designed mixed-use project integrating modern residential living above the re-established Club. Construction began in 2022, and after a full rebuild from the ground up, the Club proudly reopened in 2025 as The Willarong – a new name reflecting the site’s heritage and local identity.
The Spirit Of Lawn Bowls Lives On
Lawn bowls remains at the heart of the Caringbah Bowling & Recreation Club. The two championship-level greens have been completely rebuilt, providing pristine surfaces for both competitive bowlers and social roll-ups. Whether you’re a long-time member returning to familiar turf or a newcomer keen to give bowls a try, the Club continues to welcome players of all ages and abilities.
Bowls programs, social days, and inter-club competitions ensure that the sport’s legacy — and the camaraderie that comes with it — continues to thrive in Caringbah.
