Caringbah Bowling Club – Round 9 Match Review
2024/25 MSEB Open Pennant Season
Saturday 12th April 2024
A crucial weekend of bowls with a rare double-header as our teams prepare to back up again tomorrow for the washout round – and what a strong performance to kick it off. With all three grades playing at home on Sunday, a powerful result today sees Grade 3 with one foot in the semi-finals, and Grades 5 and 7 holding their heads high with plenty to play for.

Grade 3
Result: Caringbah def Moorfield’s 72–44 (10–0)
In what was billed as the match of the round, our Grade 3 side travelled to Moorfield’s to take on the ladder leaders in a top-of-the-table clash. This match was more than just a battle for points – it was a chance to make a statement after a narrow loss earlier in the season.
Despite a few key outs, the selectors reshuffled the deck, making strategic rink adjustments to create balance and strength across all positions. The early ends were a true arm-wrestle, with scores locked tightly through to the 38th end. But from that moment on, Caringbah lifted in style, delivering a clinical second-half performance that stunned the home side.
All three rinks fired in unison to record a 72–44-win, clean sweeping the result 10–0 and catapulting the 3s to top spot on the ladder. It was a complete team performance with composure, hunger, and unity at its core – hallmarks of a side with genuine finals aspirations.
Tomorrow’s clash with Grandviews at home presents another opportunity to cement momentum heading into the pointy end of the season.

Grade 5
Result: Caringbah def Sutherland 55–45 (9–1)
The Grade 5 side continues to grow in confidence with another strong showing today, this time at home against the traditionally tough Sutherland team. In a contest that was tight throughout, it was a big finish and a key rink performance that made the difference.
The quartet of Bettini, Neeves, Turnbull & Hogan stood tall, guiding their rink to an impressive 18–11 win – the best of the day – and helping lock in a 9–1 overall result. The 5s now hold steady in 4th place and with one more strong effort tomorrow, they could finish the season with real momentum and optimism.

Grade 7
Result: Gymea def Caringbah 67–41 (10–0)
The Grade 7s had a tough assignment today facing a strong and well-drilled Gymea outfit at home. While the scoreboard may not reflect the effort, the match was hard fought with plenty of positives.
The standout rink for the day featured Gilmour, King, Crowther & Lumb, who showed real grit and cohesion throughout their game. Despite the overall 67–41 loss (10–0), the team showed glimpses of the potential that’s been growing steadily throughout the season.
With a quick turnaround and a Sunday match against Engadine Black, the 7s will be eager to bounce back and close out the season on a high.
